A Letter from Our CEO

Saint Margaret of Scotland served the vulnerable, helped to create a community of peace and love, and pioneered religious and social reform in her time. Bearing her name, St. Margaret’s Family of Care has emulated the feats of its patroness in the New Orleans community since 1931. The people we serve at St. Margaret’s Family of Care are more than just acquaintances; they are our friends and neighbors. One step further, they are our family – our brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles, grandmas and grandpas. I believe that this attitude of love and respect, in conjunction with our top-tier staff and excellent standard of care, set St. Margaret’s Family of Care apart as the best healthcare provider in the city.

We are blessed to have had the opportunity to serve our city in times of bitter struggle and communal triumph. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the original site of St. Margaret’s in 2005. However, true to our mission to serve the community, we rebuilt shortly after Katrina. St. Margaret’s served its residents at the former Bywater Hospital before completing construction on its new site at the old Lindy Boggs Hospital on Bienville in 2012 and finally settling down. After eight long years, St. Margaret’s had completed its long journey of recovery from Katrina.

We had not been idle in those eight years, however. While continuing to provide the community with the excellent healthcare that has become our trademark, St. Margaret’s expanded its services. We now offer two skilled nursing facilities (St. Margaret’s and St. Luke’s), a Home Health and Hospice, and a residence for people suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and multiple sclerosis (The Team Gleason House).

The wide scope of our service allows us to serve the community on a larger scale than ever before. More importantly, our growth in size has not reduced the quality of our care. We still value every individual we serve. Our commitment to our residents is evident in our campuses. Each hearth room, dining room, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and spa is designed to make every residence feel like a home rather than a facility. That is what we try to create through our work – a home where a person can receive the care he or she needs and continue to live with purpose and passion. I invite you to call or come over for a visit if you would like to know more about St. Margaret’s or any of our services. Thank you for your time, and thank you for allowing St. Margaret’s to continue serving as a bright light in the community we love.
